Skykomish River Remediation - Coffer Dam Water Treatment

From the 1890s to 1974, the city of Skykomish, Washington was a maintenance and fueling station for railway operators. In the mid-1980s, the Washington State Department of Ecology and associated stakeholders moved forward with a plan to clean up contamination from past activities by performing investigational studies, temporarily relocating houses and buildings, and excavating contaminated soils which contained degraded diesel fuel and Bunker C.

During one two-year period in this multi-phase project, WaterTectonics was selected to provide a 1,200gpm treatment system that included pre-treatment for LNAPL (light non-aqueous phase product layer), chemical flocculation, and carbon filtration. The system successfully removed emulsions, suspended solids, dissolved organics, and heavy metals from recovered ground, surface, and cofferdam waters.
