Meet our Employee Spotlight Kurt Hansen. Kurt was born and raised in West Seattle with his brother Leif. His mother was his 5th grade science teacher who helped foster his interest in math, chemistry, and biology. They did many hands-on experiments like insect identification, sea creature dissection, and chemical reaction observation. This excited Kurt and helped inspire his future ventures.
After graduating high school, Kurt spent a few years as a builder/contractor. At 19 years old, he led a crew of exterior residential painters. This experience was enjoyable as Kurt liked the ability to hire his own crew, as well as the gratification of seeing a job through from beginning to end.
Kurt enrolled at the University of Washington to expand his career opportunities. While there, he leaned into his love of math and chemistry, earning his Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. With an interest in climate change and its effects, Kurt worked for Conservation Northwest after graduation. He became a part of the wildlife monitoring program, focusing on Wolverine populations and helping reintroduce Fishers back into Washington state.
Kurt joined WaterTectonics in 2019 as a Water Process Engineer. He is part of a team that designs water treatment systems based on lab scale process data. Kurt sizes equipment and creates engineering drawings, such as P&IDs (Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams) to help communicate the design to our electrical, software, mechanical, and manufacturing teams. Some of his more recent projects have focused on sustainability, which has been a highlight professionally.
In addition to P&IDs, Kurt provides support to our field team in the installation, commissioning, and training on systems. He lends his support throughout the United States and Argentina from where he lives in San Diego, CA. Many of our Southern California clients have welcomed his hands-on customer support with challenging water treatment projects.
When not working, Kurt enjoys cooking, playing music, going to concerts, and spending quality time with his girlfriend.
