Vigor Industrial operates a 60 acre shipyard on Swan Island in Portland, Oregon. The facility repairs and builds ships on site as well as fabricates bridges, aerospace components and steel structures. Heavy metals from production activities, cleaning, and raw materials storage are picked up by stormwater during rain events and have to be removed prior to discharge of stormwater to the adjacent Willamette River. WaterTectonics was brought in to research and pilot a stormwater treatment solution for the facility. A 400 gallon per minute electrocoagulation system was installed in 2013 and remained on site as a pilot for three years. Due to the positive results, the system was transitioned to a permanent installation in 2016.
