During this two month pilot project in central Pennsylvania, WaterTectonics worked for a major North American energy company and utilized its WaveIonics electrocoagulation technology to treat flowback water on-site. The clean brine effluent from the WaveIonics system was mixed with fresh water to produce a stable fracturing fluid for reuse in other processes. Treatment targets included total suspended solids as well as barium and strontium. The ability to recycle water on-site allowed for significant savings in trucking costs, especially considering the highly populated area and active exploration going on all around the project. WaterTectonics treated over 75,000 barrels of water by project end.
