This battery manufacturing company was seeking solutions to deal with high concentrations of dissolved lead in its stormwater runoff. The source of the lead was the company’s manufacturing activities, so source reduction was challenging. The facility had previously implemented a passive media approach, but that solution hadn’t achieved the site’s lead targets per the California Industrial General Permit. WaterTectonics conducted bench-testing to profile the client’s water and develop a sound approach to address the issue. After a treatment solution was proposed, it was determined that the client required the system to be trailer-mounted and also for it to fit in a very tight footprint. WaterTectonics worked with the client’s general contractor to develop an approach that maximized the system flowrate and minimized the site footprint impact.
