Australia - Acid Mine Water Treatment

acid mine water treatment in Australia

Singleton is in the heart of the Hunter Valley coalfields region of NSW Australia. Our client, a coal mining company, received record amounts of flooding across their site. As a result, the coal excavation pits were filled with water, that when mixed with the sulfur and metals in the rock, became highly acidic. In order to pump out the pits and get back to work, the water would need to be treated to specific requirements for discharge. Our client asked for detailed research and a pilot system to determine the best method of treatment. WaterTectonics provided a 40gpm pilot system that used electrocoagulation (EC), pH adjustment, clarification, and reverse osmosis (RO) to successfully meet all parameters.
