What is a Dynamic Scale Remover (DSR)?

The Dynamic Scale Remover (DSR) is an advanced electrochemical treatment system designed to improve cooling tower performance by addressing the primary causes of inefficiency: scale formation, biological fouling, and corrosion. The system removes dissolved scale-forming minerals from the water while continuously generating powerful biocides from naturally occurring chlorides already present in the system.

How it Works

The Dynamic Scale Remover uses a patented electrochemical process to improve cooling water quality in two ways simultaneously.

Scale Removal
Inside the DSR, dissolved minerals such as calcium and magnesium are forced to precipitate within controlled reaction chambers. These minerals are removed before they can form scale on cooling towers, piping, and heat exchangers. By preventing scale buildup, the DSR helps maintain heat transfer efficiency, reduce maintenance, and extend equipment life.

Continuous Biological Control
At the same time, the reactor converts naturally occurring chloride ions into hypochlorous acid (HOCl) and free chlorine. These oxidizing biocides are continuously generated within the system to control bacteria, algae, biofilm, and other biological contaminants while reducing reliance on conventional chemical treatment.

Operate at Higher Cycles of Concentration

By removing scale-forming minerals before they can accumulate on heat transfer surfaces, the Dynamic Scale Remover allows cooling towers to safely operate at higher cycles of concentration. Operating at higher cycles reduces cooling tower blowdown and lowers the amount of fresh makeup water required, helping facilities conserve water, reduce wastewater discharge, and lower operating costs.
