WaterTectonics worked as part of a multi-vendor team to design and implement this 300gpm WaveIonics electrocoagulation stormwater treatment system for American Steel, a diversified metals processor and distributor, in Kent, WA. Prior to their transition to the Industrial Stormwater Permit (ISWGP), American Steel enlisted the help of independent third-party consultants and engineering firms to design and evaluate a new stormwater treatment system for their facility. With much of their site under roof or paved, typical runoff appeared clear or only lightly turbid. However, rain runoff from a large zinc roof contributed to dissolved zinc concentrations in the runoff and elevated it to unacceptable levels. WaterTectonics was one of many water treatment equipment vendors considered in the competitive bid process. In the end, WaterTectonics’ strong local track record and performance with high profile clients in the Seattle area won them the project. During design discussions, the client opted to minimize upfront detention and maximize the throughput capacity on a treatment system, ultimately purchasing a 300gpm unit.
