Press Release: Water Tectonics Technology Receives General Use Designation from State of Washington

07.27.10

EVERETT, WA, July 27, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -– WaterTectonics, an international leader in on-site water treatment technology and services, is pleased to announce the company has been granted General Use Level Designation (GULD) from the Washington State Department of Ecology for its WaveIonics Electrocoagulation Subtractive Technology (ECST). The company's innovative WaveIonics ECST is one of only two approved methods for treatment of stormwater runoff on construction sites in the state of Washington. The GULD designation will make the system more broadly accessible statewide, as it is now an approved method for Erosion and Sediment Control on construction sites.

The WaveIonics system is consistently a "go-to" technology for high-volume construction projects in the greater Seattle region, including those discharging to Western Washington water bodies with sensitive ecosystems, such as Puget Sound, Lake Washington, and the Columbia River. The system has also been implemented as a permanent industrial stormwater treatment solution at multiple facilities across Washington and Oregon. High profile construction projects in the greater Seattle region that have effectively used the WaveIonics system include Microsoft's West Campus in Redmond, the Virginia Mason Athletic Center in Renton, and St. Anthony's Hospital in Gig Harbor.

"WaterTectonics is thrilled to have General Use Level Designation for our WaveIonics system," said Jim Mothersbaugh, founder and president of WaterTectonics. "This recognition from the state of Washington is a testament to the effectiveness and capabilities of our electrocoagulation technology. We are confident that access to this leading edge technology will equip the construction industry to discharge water from sites with a significantly decreased risk of environmental damage."

The WaveIonics system is an automated electrocoagulation water treatment system operating between 100 to 1,000 gallons per minute for the purpose of reducing turbidity and controlling pH on construction sites. In other applications, the WaveIonics system is also effective for removal of total suspended solids, total and dissolved heavy metals, bacteria, and more.

An innovative, cost-effective feature of WaveIonics is the system's Remote Notification functionality. In Remote Notification mode, the WaveIonics system can send text message alerts to an operator's mobile device or email. This allows an operator to perform other on-site duties when the WaveIonics system is in standard operation and only to respond as necessary to system-generated alerts.

Press Release: Steel Service Center, American Steel, selects WaveIonics Stormwater Treatment System

12.28.09

WaterTectonics, Inc., a leading innovator of industrial stormwater treatment systems, announces today that American Steel, a diversified metals processor and distributor, has installed a WaveIonics stormwater treatment system at their Kent, WA facility. The WaveIonics system uses electrocoagulation technology to remove turbidity, heavy metals, and other contaminants from stormwater runoff. American Steel implemented the WaveIonics system to reduce zinc and turbidity levels in their stormwater discharges, ultimately improving water quality and reducing toxicity effects in the nearby creek.

Case Study: National Instruments Features WaterTectonics' WaveIonics User Interface and Control System

02.12.09

Using National Instruments products like LabVIEW and Compact FieldPoint Controllers, WaterTectonics has developed a user interface for the WaveIonics electrocoagulation system that is flexible, automated, and robust. With the tight integration between NI hardward and software, WaterTectonics was able to test coding extensively on a PC before deploying it to a system. Plus, it was easy to adapt the intuitive touch-panel GUI for multiple systems, providing operational control and vitals to our customers. For hardware, the system incorporates the NI Compact FieldPoint programmable automation controller (PAC). This NI PAC integrates seamlessly with different transducers as well as an external measurement system for pH, conductivity, and turbidity. WaterTectonics also capitalized on the controller's wide range of data communication capabilities, such as Modbus (RS232 and Ethernet), OPC, and Web communication for remote access and control.

By using the NI platform, the WaveIonics system is able to provide real-time pH and turbidity inline management. The system not only offers alarming and onboard data logging based on water quality but also monitors system components for predictive maintenance and recommends an exchange of consumables when needed. Because many sites must report water quality and discharge data, clients can use the logged information for automating the filing process and can easily transfer the logged data into their supervisory control systems for further reporting. Press Release: ACEC 2009 Engineering Excellence Awards recognize WaterTectonics with Gold and Silver

01.26.08

ACEC of Washington held its 41st annual awards ceremony Friday, January 16, 2009 at the Bellevue, WA Hyatt. With over 300 in attendance, 41 total awards were presented: 1 Platinum, 10 Gold, 15 Silver, and 15 Bronze. WaterTectonics, in partnership with Magnusson Klemencic Associates and Bayley Construction, was recognized under the Environmental category with a Gold award for their work at the Viriginia Mason Athletic Center. Located on Lake Washington, WaterTectonics utilized a multi-phased approach for remediation and stormwater treatment on this contaminated hazwoper site. WaveIonics electrocoagulation system, ACISTBox chitosan treatment system, pHATBox pH adjustment system, media filtration, hurricane filtration, and carbon filtration technologies were used across five different systems ranging from 100-200GPM.

Virginia Mason Athletic Center

Additionally, WaterTectonics, in partnership with Parametrix, was also recognized under the "Future Value to the Profession" category with a Silver award for their work at Nichols Brothers Boat Builders. One of the largest and oldest boat building companites in Western Washington, Nichols Brothers Boat Builders is located on an environmentally sensitive harbor. It is the first boat builder being held to a copper discharge of less than 4.8 parts per billion in its stormwater effluent. WaterTectonics worked with Parametrix to design and implement a WaveIonics stormwater treatment system for this 10+ acre facility.

Press Release: Barge and terminal services operator Tidewater selects WaterTectonics' WaveIonics electrocoagulation treatment system

12.31.08

In a competitive solicitation and bid, Tidewater, a leading barge, towboat, and terminal services provider has selected a WaveIonics electrocoagulation treatment system for their Vancouver, WA terminal facility. Tidewater had previously trialed alternative systems and technologies which failed to provide the stormwater treatment performance they required - a zinc discharge limit of 73 parts per billion (ug/L) in their stormwater discharge.

Tidewater

Tidewater's strong commitment to the environment guided their decision to implement a system that would provide the best performance possible to reduce zinc and turbidity stormwater discharge levels at this facility.

12.08.08

WaterTectonics developed three comprehensive water treatment systems to treat the contaminated site runoff at the Gates Foundation construction in Seattle. Recent sampling by Fremont Analytical confirmed that the WaterTectonics treatment systems in place are meeting all of their goals.

Gates Foundation

The project site had known contamination of BTEX, hydrocarbons, and free oil based on site usage from previous owners. The report showed that WaterTectonics was successful in treating the following contaminants:

  • BTEX in Water by EPA Method 8021B
  • Oil and Grease in Water by EPA Method 1664
  • pH by EPA Method 9045
  • Settleable Solids by SM 2540F
  • Cyanide in Water by EPA Method 335.

Press Release: EPA features WaterTectonics’ WaveIonics electrocoagulation system as an affordable and effective technology for new construction and land development activities

10.1.08

WaterTectonics’ WaveIonics electrocoagulation technology has been featured in the EPA’s policy setting review as part of its efforts to establish a Federal effluent or water quality national standard. The EPA is currently developing new regulations applicable to stormwater discharges from new construction and land development activities.

The EPA is developing these regulations, called effluent guidelines, as a result of litigation. The EPA is currently under a court order to publish the proposed regulations in the Federal Register by December 1, 2008 and to publish a final rule by December 1, 2009.
